Fuengirola

Fuengirola is just a twenty minute drive from Malaga airport which makes it one of the most popular holiday resorts on the Costa del Sol. Fuengirola has five miles of sandy beaches with a palm lined promenade running along.

Fuengirola offers all the facilities of a major tourist centre, restaurants, bars, discotheques, sports clubs, etc. Broad beaches flank the city east and west (Carvajal, Gaviotas, Los Boliches, San Francisco, Santa Amalia, Castillo) with "chiringuitos" - simple beach side sheds housing restaurants - offer typical dishes such as Gazpacho (Typicial Andalucian cold soup), skewered sardines, fresh catch of the day, etc.   Nearby there is an Aquapark, a Zoo and a Marina area from where you can take part in a selection of water sports.  The remains of the Moorish castle of Sohail are on the western edge of Fuengirola and a weekly market is held in the centre of Fuengirola.  You will find a number of interesting venues such as the Roman baths at Torreblanca, the Outdoor Museum exhibiting paintings by a variety of artists, the Yacht Harbour, Yacht Club, a Bull Ring, golf courses, ¨Miramar a large shopping complex and the 7 km long Marine Parade dotted with various monuments and sculptures.

Fuengirola is a popular tourist resort because of the weather and climate in Fuengirola. As well as being very hot in the summer Fuengirola is very mild all throughout the winter when many tourists from Northern Europe come to escape their bitter winter.  This bustling cosmopolitan town on the Mediterranean is at its peak during the summer months when thousands of tourists arrive to enjoy their summer holidays.  Fuengirola started off as a tiny fishing village, but has become a town filled with character. The arrival of  many up-market tapa bars and good restaurants, mixed with chic boutiques and many other interesting shops, as well as fabulous beaches, makes it an ideal holiday destination. Plaza de la Constitución is the main square and has been re-designed but still holds a unique enchantment.

Getting to Fuengirola from Malaga Airport couldn’t be easier.  Take a taxi straight to the Hotel of your choice for approx €30- €35.  Or come by train.  There is a Train stop five minutes walk across the car park from the Departures area of the Airport.  The train is cheap and reliable and will bring you directly into the centre of Fuengirola town.  Five minutes walk to the Las Palmeras Hotel and PYR Hotel both situated on the promenade.
